Khaki Shorts

I finally managed to finish a couple of pairs of shorts for my older granddaughter who will be attending school as of tomorrow.  The weather in South Carolina can still be HOT for weeks to come.  The dress code mandates that any shorts worn on campus cannot be above the knee for more than the width of a dollar bill.  Searching for such resulted in my decision to make some for her.  The first two pairs are of a twill type material in khaki and a intense pink.  Granddaughter had already obtained the pink pair when the khaki pair was photographed.  Both pairs are identical in construction.

The pattern used is McCall's M6391.  The initial thought was that modification would be necessary as that my granddaughter is wearing Girls' 16, off the rack, and the pattern only goes to 14.  However, the measurements indicated that the size 14 pattern would do, and the shorts fit her perfectly!

I found some pretty prints in some cotton fabrics as I searched through my stash of materials and used them to line the inner waistband and the pockets.  The buttons for the khaki pair are of a traditional "tortoise-shell" look.  However, the pink pair have pinks dots on white background.  Maybe I can get GrD to model them when she visits again and take a photo or two.

Now, I need to cut out a couple of more pairs and get them done ASAP.  We have had thunderstorms almost daily for over a week and it seemed as though every time that I sat down to work on the shorts, a bad storm rolled in.  Patience is not a luxury for me when something needs to be done immediately, and Mother Nature sucker punches my plans.

I pray that happiness be at your door.  May it knock early, stay late and give the gift of God's peace, joy, love, and good health behind.
